Allman Brothers @ The Beacon - 3/22/2011

Ridiculous show, awesome seats.  Smoking start with Statesboro (nice call Peter) followed by Come and Go/Hot 'Lanta.  The end of set 1 got crazy...Soulshine was broken out with a huge horn section and I thought that would close it out.  Instead, they brought out Rich Robinson and went right into The Weight, a huge treat to hear and it was played much differently from The Band's version, which is always cool.  At this point there were 14 people on stage.  Certain that The Weight would close the set, I was proven wrong yet again when they started up One Way out.

Set 2 was filled with much longer jams and more guests.  Black Hearted Woman and Jessica both had to be close to 20 minutes.  When they returned for the encore, I heard Derek noodling around and I was immediately ecstatic because I knew No One Left To Run With was coming (unless they decided to play Not Fade Away, which wasn't happening).  Definitely one of my favorite Allman songs and I've been hoping to catch it for a while now.  Certainly didn't disappoint as Warren and Derek ripped through the song and teased Blue Sky along the way.  Great to be back at the Beacon...round 2 Saturday night for the final show of this run.  But first, Furthur @ Radio City on Friday.

MMJ Summer Tour

Gotta be honest, if this band doesn't shape things up soon I am going to lose interest.  What kind of bullshit tour is this?  And regardless, start varying the setlists, play the songs differently, and please don't pump recorded music over the PA.  I remember seeing these guys play at Vanderbilt in 2006 and I'll never forget Mahgeetah and One Big Holiday...the two songs that stuck with me permanently after Rites of Spring....but it's as if they haven't changed since.  This is a band that sold out MSG for New Years 2008, played one of the most revered Bonnarro setlists of all time, and had a week-long residency in NYC this fall to perform every album they've put out.  This band has so much potential and in my opinion is the best up-and-comer, but these idiots behave like amateurs and it's going to bury them.  Let's ditch the plastic guns and focus on the music please.

DMB FTW x2

In my excitement yesterday I failed to notice that along with the Warehouse disc, DMB is also releasing the famed 1993 show at the Wetlands.  Warren sat in on a bunch of tunes and this Blue Water has been the stuff of legend ever since.  Just when I couldn't get any more down on Dave, they go and release two winners and TOTALLY REDEEM THEMSELVES.

March Winds Will Blow All My Troubles Away

42 years touring and still going strong

Gotta love Oteli's smile around 1:55 and then Trey going right on through at 2:10, where most would have tied off their solo.  Page adds a nice touch midway through and then Warren and Derek trade off to wrap it up...amazing.  Can't wait to see these guys

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

Our favorite pirate Trid Vicious has once again stirred up a conversation that must be shared

Recently Pat commented on a blog post and wrote "are you kidding me?!" (in quotes)

I asked Pat why he was quoting himself.  He quickly retorted that I was in fact the idiot for not realizing that he was quoting none other than...wait for it...Dick Vitale

Don't even get me started on the rationale here.  That's like saying someone is a moron for not knowing where to attribute the quote "whatever floats your boat."  Most people would think nothing of it; Trish would probably assume that others would attribute the line to this

To further prove my point, I'll refer you to Dick Vitale's wikipedia entry.  It actually does mention some of his signature phrases, but no where in the entry is there ANY sort of mention of "are you kidding me?!"

For now we'll let the comedy ride and I'll continue to monitor the saga of prophetic Trish
